Who’s Angry Now?
Maria Grant’s Spy editorial of June 17, 2025
My fellow columnist at the Spy Newspapers serving Maryland’s Eastern Shore, Maria Grant, is an avid reader. She reads two or three books a week. Most of her reading consists of highly acclaimed, award-winning writing, primarily fiction. Recently, however, she read a book that she describes as “something of a potboiler. It is The Doorman by Chris Pavone.
Maria liked the book. It is an enjoyable read (I know because I am reading it now). When Grant told me that she planned to write her weekly column on the book, I asked, “Are you sure?” She was.
Grant, like most inciteful readers (I wish I were more of one myself), finds things in books that many of us miss. In the case of The Doorman, Grant found insights into the human condition.

Who’s Angry Now?
I just finished reading The Doorman by Chris Pavone. The novel, which I highly recommend, is a bit of a potboiler. It focuses on the goings-on at a fictional grand apartment building in New York City called The Bohemia.
