Why, Mr. President, Why?
My Spy editorial for February 26, 2025
Sometimes it doesn’t pay to write an editorial before the deadline. The problem is breaking news. And there has never been an administration better at surprises than the current one. That is why, had I seen President Trump’s bizarre social media post on “What’s Next?” depicting Gaza converted into a Trump-themed luxury resort, complete with golden statutes of Trump’s favorite president, or the troubling announcement of retribution against the law firm representing former Special Counsel Jack Smith, today’s editorial in Spy Community Media’s Maryland Eastern Shore newspapers would read differently from what I wrote.
I encourage you to look at Trump’s Gaza video. You will mutter, “Why, Mr. President, Why?”
And if you read the Washington Post story about Trump’s action against Jack Smith’s legal representatives, you will mutter something else — something likely too obscene for my tastes.
