Why do I keep making the same mistake?

Dear Dale:

I’m a good-looking guy who has no trouble getting women and usually get laid when I go to the bar. But I always wake up with a monster. The fattest, ugliest women you can imagine. Thing is, till then, I don’t notice. The night before, they actually look good. What’s wrong with me? Am I such a drunk I can’t tell the difference?

Signed,

Halloween all year round

Dear HAYR:

You’re not the first guy to make that mistake. Alcohol, for all its benefits, does lower your standards.

Which is why, if you’re thinking of making a move on a woman, you should always ask a buddy to assess her bangability first. Preferably one less drunk than you.

But the fact that you keep making the same mistake over and over again makes me wonder if it really is a mistake. By your own admission, you’re a good-looking guy. You should be able to do better. That you keep going for such women suggests that, deep down, you’re genuinely attracted to them.

Perhaps it’s the perversity, the thrill of doing the least attractive chick in the bar, that appeals to you — masochism comes in many forms: some people even like their jobs — and it’s really the ridicule of your friends that you fear.

If so, you should face the truth about yourself and embrace your role as a bar bottom-feeder. You’ll be glad you did. Because someone, after all, has to give these horny women what they so desperately need and, unlike Santa Claus, I can’t be everywhere at once. Hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Dale
