Green Weeds: THC vs. CBD; What’s It All About Anyway?

Third in this week’s series On Greening is our “green weed” edition. Missed out on reading about Clean Beauty or Clean Home. It’s not too late.

Now onto all things …marijuana, shall we?!

Many states have legalized marijuana, either medicinally or recreationally. It still feels strange to walk into a store and buy a box of pre-rolled joints (depending on where you are, of course), but it does seem that this is what the future feels like. And as the body’s ability to process alcohol changes, more and more women are turning to marijuana as an alternative to their favorite chardonnay or cocktail.

What is the difference between THC and CBD? Both of them are found in the cannabis plants, but only one will get you high. THC is the psychoactive compound that gets you high and often gives you “the munchies.” CBD is an active compound found naturally in hemp plants, and has recently been used to treat a variety of ailments. It’s federally legal everywhere as long as it doesn’t contain more than 0.3 percent THC, which means that you can order it online regardless of where you live in the United States. ***Note that some state laws have put restrictions on buyers of CBD so do your research before consuming any in your state.

What is CBD used for? A whole bunch of stuff. Many doctors have found that small doses of CBD can help with physical aches and pains, and sleeping through the night. But CBD is an overachiever; so apparently it also helps with mental conditions like anxiety, depression and… even desire. Yes, it’s been said that CBD can even help you get in the mood (you’re welcome.)

How do you use CBD? That’s part of what can make it so confusing; there really are many different ways it can be used. There are tinctures, which you drop onto your tongue, edible gummies that you can take to help you sleep and even creams & ointments that you can slather onto whatever body part aches. Prefer drinking it? You can do that, too. It really depends on your own needs and preferences. We’ve picked out our favorite products for some of the most common CBD uses.

Lord Jones was one of the first mainstream CBD companies to take the world by storm with its luxurious packaging and cult-favorite gummies. They’ve since branched out into tinctures, bath salts, and pain-relieving lotion.

Kat’s Naturals is a woman-owned brand that is also personal favorite for their inhalers & CBD oils.

Vertly is a small-batch CBD company in Northern California that makes CBD products like lip balm, bath salts, and post-workout recovery spray.

Foria Wellness is a brand that truly cares about female pleasure. Their Awaken CBD Arousal Oil works with your body to “create potent ‘therapeutic aphrodisiac’ affects”, which results in better orgasms for you. They also have intimacy suppositories and lubricant, among other CBD products.

If you live in a state where marijuana is legal, then you should head to your local dispensary to chat with a budtender (yes, they’re really called that) about what kind of high you’re looking for, and what products would be best for you.

Of course, keep in mind that we are not doctors. What might work for one of you could be highly ineffective for someone else, so be sure to consult a trusted medical professional before trying any CBD or THC products.

Enjoy green weeds.
