This past week, Representative Darrell Issa — Republican, Trump supporter, and member of both the House Judiciary and Foreign Affairs committees — broke with the majority of his party to call for an independent investigation into Russia’s involvement in the 2016 election, saying that Attorney Jeff Sessions, formerly a member of the Trump campaign and currently a Trump appointee, has an apparent conflict of interest. If a conservative stalwart of Issa’s stature can ask for an independent investigation, your legislators can too. Call and tell them so.

Hello [Senator|Representative] [name]. My name is [name] and I am one of your constituents in [place], [zip]. My phone number is [phone], but I don’t need a call back.

I am calling today to ask you to stand with Representative Darrell Issa in calling for a vigorous, independent investigation of Russia’s involvement in the 2016 Presidential election, and of the connections between President Trump’s campaign, his administration, and the Russian government. The accumulating evidence that elements within the President’s campaign and administration have had improper contact with the Russian government is deeply disturbing. Even more disturbing is that we do not know the nature of those contacts, and therefore do not know whether it is the interests of the American people President Trump serves, or the interests of a foreign power.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions is not the person to lead such an investigation. As a former member of the Trump campaign, and as an appointee within the Trump administration, Sessions faces insurmountable conflicts of interest. Therefore, it is imperative that we have an independent investigator who can assess the evidence without bias.

If Representative Issa, a member of the President’s party who serves on the House Judiciary Committee and the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, sees the need for an independent investigation, so too should you.
