The Types of Women That Get Cheated On (Part 1)
A Persona 5 Message
One of the things that make the Persona series stand out is its social links system. It allows you to make friends and romance your party members and other non-playable characters. It’s an absolute blast to see every relationship you have to blossom and deepen and see your interactions with them get real and emotional.
If you know what you’re doing, you’ll have a girlfriend in no time. Just throw out a flirty response every chance you get and the girls are sure to fall for it. Next thing you know, you and your girlfriend are in your room, awakening Personas and all.
Isn’t that great?
But that’s not all. The Persona games also allow you to cheat on your girlfriend. Just repeat the same process to the next social link and voila, back to your room again. In this franchise, cheating is taken lightly, almost a comic relief even. There are no consequences at all. It’s ridiculous I know, but it isn’t new. On the last three Persona games, you can have a love affair with all of the women available, if you so desire.
What’s interesting in Persona 5 is how every potential partner falls on a specific stereotype of women that usually gets cheated on in real life. Just for the sake of fun, I’m going to describe each one of them using the characters in the game. But it’s important to understand that this doesn’t mean it’s the women’s fault they got cheated on.
Cheating is a conscious fucked up choice by one, sometimes two individuals. In this game, it’s all on you.
Ann is the girlfriend you’ve always wanted when you were in college. She’s fun, confident and out-going. And of course, she’s smokin’ hot. She’s a model, with sex appeal enough to turn the heads of even the most decorated bachelors you know. In fact, even your Olympic medalist high school professor is constantly trying to woo her.
You’re not sure how it happened, but somehow, you two are in a relationship. You’re out of her league when it comes to looks, but since you were dauntless enough to approach her, she eventually gave in.
You and Ann are inseparable during your first few months. You both agree that it’s important to make lasting memories. You’re always together going to exciting places and trying new stuff for the sake of experience. You will never forget the time you spent with her.
You also agree that it’s important to make love. So you did, a lot. In your mind, every night that you lit aflame with Ann were some of the best sex you’ve ever had.
After a while, you noticed how she’s coming home very late at night because of work. She wasn’t always like this. Only after she got that huge modelling gig she’s told you about. She’s also told you that a lot of her male co-workers started showing interest in her, but you’ve got nothing to worry about. You can trust her.
That’s what she said.
You’ve told yourself that repeatedly. For a while you were fine. But your own insecurity just couldn’t be contained. It kept creeping up to your head. And the thought of her cheating on you just wouldn’t go away. After all, she’s too pretty for you and your relationship is too good to be true.
So when you saw her talking to a guy who’s so handsome you’d think his last name is Akechi, you lost it. You instantaneously jumped to conclusions. Even though from the looks of it, they were in a group having office lunch out. But, you didn’t confront her. You just went home like you always do. At least Morgana the cat is waiting for you.
“I can’t believe Ann is cheating on me” you thought to yourself as you wept silently. You decided to get a drink that night.
You want to have a drink alone but you’ve never been to a bar before. You wore your Sunday’s best, a blazer on top of a plain cotton shirt paired with faded jeans. You’re thinking you have to look good tonight, and you do. You entered the bar, hands on your pocket, confidently strutting along.
The bar was mostly empty, except for some folks that seemed usual patrons of the place. You sat in front of the bar and greeted the transgender owner. She greeted you back politely, recognized you’re new and asked for your drink.
Just as your drink is being served, a casually dressed lady who looks like she’s got a little bit of age and experience ahead of you, sat comfortably close. The bartender knows her and immediately whipped out her usual cocktail. You heard her name was Ichiko Ohya. It’s not long before you two started talking, albeit, flirting.
That’s how everything starts.
You’ve never flirted with anyone before aside from Ann, but you’ve never drank too much alcohol before either. To your surprise, they go along really well.
You were fascinated by her career as a journalist as much as she was unbelievably charmed by your “steal your heart” stories. You enjoyed speaking with her a lot. She’s smart, outspoken and conversational. But what you enjoyed the most was the attention she gave you. Needless to say, you took her number and met her again.
After a few weeks of you telling her more of your extraordinary heists and her confiding personal and professional problems with you over drinks, you confess to her that you love her. Unsurprisingly, she does too. And as both of you are wrapped in the heat of your romantic confession, Ohya invites you to go back to her place and “spend some time alone”.
You were not careful with your words, and you never mentioned you’re already in a relationship with another girl. There’s no turning back now.
Congratulations, you just cheated on two girls you phantom fucker.
