Sustainability and Upgrading

--

After week twos lecture it really made me think about how as a society we have become so oblivious to how much we are actually consuming and where all of the goods end up after we throw them away.

As consumers we have become obsessed with buying and upgrading. As companies feed of our hunger for the new, they keep pushing out product after product. But what is our responsibility as a consumer to do with the old unwanted goods such as old phones?

Green design is on the rise with more people and organisations pushing to make us realise that this is our responsibility. There are things that could be done to start making these steps towards more eco friendly designs. For example making cans that are printed with all recyclable ink. Coca Cola have recently started campaigns encouraging people to recyle thier products. Companies could start taking back thier old products and desposing of them properly. There are ways to improve this sustainability and upgrade culture issues, but are we ready to take them.
