Consumerism is a result of the love for excess. People buying things that they want instead of the things that they need, in a vain attempt to achieve self actualisation. It has resulted in the class division breaking down and building back in a different and arguably more strong way; its led to advertisements becoming manipulative by showing off products as a way to display one’s class or that the products make life more convenient which can more often than not be a lie; and its contributed to the destruction of the environment.
