Countercultures stay away from the mainstream, and tend to be the opposite of whatever is trending at the time. Counterculture is often fast and short lived as it either becomes a popular trend in itself or people get bored of it so it burns out. Creative and innovative young people tend to be the type of people that follow these counterculture trends, constantly evolving and aiming to stand out from the majority. Hipsters are a group of people that come to mind when thinking of those who stand out from the norm but they don’t technically follow the ‘terms’ of counterculture. They don’t have any emotional standings and the group are based off of music and clothing trends, even then there is no way to define it as people have described ‘hipster’ clothing as everything from really trendy to something a homeless person might wear. The term ‘hipster’ has also moved on to being an extremely mainstream group and many young people today could be placed under the umbrella term. Not many people would call themselves ‘hipster’, it is a counterculture that is extremely hard to define, with no common opinions or views.
