8. Critical and Speculative Design

To narrow assumptions and preconceptions about products we use every single day we can use critical and speculative design. This type of design is considered as a way of opposing affirmative design.

The main purpose of this is not only to try and make us all think but also try to raise awareness, change assumptions or begin a debate.

‘One of critical Design’s roles is to question the limited range of emotional and psychological experiences offered through designed products’ — Dune and Raby

This type of designing is not for every designer, it is more emotional and creative compared to classical designing.
