In light of the COVID-19 outbreak, government officials are taking precautionary measures to ensure the health and safety of their employees, as well as to mitigate the spread.

Justin Trudeau, the Canadian Prime Minister, tweeted on Thursday that he will be #workingfromhome via teleconference and phone calls, due to his wife testing positive for COVID-19. This raises the question — how can government and business operations communicate and run efficiently from home, with sensitive information at risk?

In Abu Dhabi and Dubai, public sector employees will begin #workingfromhome as of Sunday, March 15th. This measure was implemented by government officials to help protect employees who have compromised immune systems, specifically the pregnant and elderly. A week prior, government officials and authorities discussed how remote work would benefit employees and begin to activate the digital ecosystem.

#Workingfromhome is creating a new digital landscape, especially in the political world. Governments cannot simply shut down — they need to be able to communicate with each other and citizens. Government leaders and officials communicating via social platforms is a great way to keep citizens informed, but, how can government employees communicate with one another in a safe and secure way? How can leaks be prevented when there are citizen’s public health information at risk?

This is where the emergence of blockchain and decentralized technology will prove to be extremely beneficial. With business dApps, such as Debrief, built on the blockchain network, governments do not have to worry about leaks or hacks from third parties. All communication, from messaging, file sharing, phone calls, and to video conferences about confidential health can be done in one application. By utilizing the blockchain network and decentralized platforms, governments can ensure that #workingfromhome will be both efficient, and most importantly, secure.

Below are Justin Trudeau’s latest tweets on #workingfromhome:

The Debrief team hopes that everyone is staying safe and taking the necessary precautions to protect themselves.
