Fatherhood is not the most popular topic in our society. We see a tendency of less and less fathers being an active part of the parenting process. While we could find many unfortunate reasons for that, I simply want to disagree and stand up for the idea that a father is one of the most important people in child’s life.

To be a dad is not an easy task and kids don’t come with a manual so it’s important to educate yourself in order not to make mistakes which might have hard consciences in the future. Here is my list of books I highly recommend to any future or present dad:

I’ve read this book almost three times and will probably read it again. It’s pretty short but touches very fundamental things about raising kids in freedom and love. One of the core ideas of the book is establishing a heart-to-heart connection with your child. Get ready to underline a lot or just tweet those as you read it.

“Consequences breed ownership, and ownership breeds responsibility”

Those who know me, know that I am a very much logical person, so when I came across this book, I had to get it. It is written in a very light and easy to follow manner. The fist half of the book talks about principles behind Love and Logic Parenting and how to set your mind on it. The second half is a combination of 50 situations you most likely to encounter with your kids and what to do when it happens.

“To help our children gain responsibility, we must offer them opportunities to be responsible!”

This is an absolutely must read for every father of one or more daughters! In my opinion, Meg Meeker is one of the most educated and authoritative person on this subject. The book will guide you through all the areas in girls’ life where a father figure plays a tremendous role.

“Dad, it’s not optional: your daughter needs you to be her hero.”

This one is for fathers-to-be! With this lighthearted, month-by-month instruction manual on the care and nurture of a pregnant wife — the main role of expectant dads — he’ll handle all the important milestones and topics: what not to say during the three phases of labor; what to buy, how many, and when; maintaining work-life balance; maintaining work-life-wife balance

Famous saying says that “Leaders are Readers” and in this fatherless generation it’s so important for fathers to not just be present but be proactive and interested when it comes to raising their kids. I hope you will give those books a try (or will buy one as a present to some other father), and I would love to hear your feedback in the comments below. I’m going to leave you with a video of Dr. Meg Meeker talking about the role of a dad in daughters life:
