When you work in the blockchain space, you realize that time really does fly. It feels like our 2018 roadmap was announced just yesterday, whereas, in reality, it was almost a year ago. If we take a minute to look back though, we will inevitably come to the conclusion that this was one heck of a year. Like all companies, there were definitely some roadblocks along the way, but we’re proud to say we marched forward through the challenges and completed all the milestones and more from last year. In fact, we were spot on with our roadmap and accomplished everything we planned to and so much more. Let’s take a minute to reflect on 2018 and have a sneak peek into our plans for 2019!

DECENT’s New Look

For starters, DECENT got a facelift in 2018, and we saw a new, redesigned logo, website and mission statement as we pivoted from strictly a content distribution platform to a blockchain technology and service provider. This set the foundation for future development of decentralized applications on top of DCore, our open-source blockchain technology and platform that developers from anywhere in the world can use to build their decentralized dreams.

DCore dApps

The first of these dApps is a mobile gaming company, called ALAX, which launched in Q3 of last year. ALAX focuses on using mobile gaming to build a decentralized micropayment system, running on DCore, within the gaming space in developing South East Asian communities where institutional banking is not fully matured.

In order to build these and other dApps, we released our DCore SDK on GitHub in October — specifically, our Android DCore SDK, with a complete user guide and open APIs, with an iOS DCore SDK coming soon.

Advanced DCT Wallets

The biggest launch of Q3 and Q4 last year were the multiple versions of our wallet platform. First, we launched our new web wallet, then a little later in the year, we released our Android mobile wallet. These new wallets give you control of all your transactions and activities involving your DCT tokens moving forward. If you haven’t set up your account yet, you can register here.

DGone

With the launch of our new web wallet and mobile wallet, it is officially time to say goodbye to the DGo platform. Back in 2017, DGo was our first platform which allowed our community to access their DCT tokens. We’ve come a long way since then, and with our web wallet and mobile wallet now set up, we highly encourage our users to migrate to these wallet platforms as we will be slowly winding down DGo (the final date to access DGo accounts is January 29, 2019).

Voting Tool

If you are a DCT holder and are up to date with our developments, you surely have seen the release of our voting tool in August. The voting tool we implemented is not only important as it allows you to vote for DCore miners, but it is also incredibly user-friendly and fun to use. Voting for miners is an integral part of the DCore platform, as we employ a DPoS system to ensure that our mining community is fair and reliable.

Global Presence and Hackathons

Globally, we’ve seen our China team expand multi-fold in addition to building out a team in South Korea and having our sights on Singapore, soon. With this much presence across the globe, we naturally attended relevant events, conferences and gatherings last year, led by Matej Michalko, Michal Geci and our ambassador, Daniel Riddell. Some of the highlights included a cruise in the Mediterranean, and a handful of industry-changing events in China across various cities like Shanghai, Beijing, Nanjing and Shenzhen.

Last but not least, one of the biggest accomplishments we achieved this year was hosting our Blockchain Pioneers Hackathon series across 5 countries. It began at our headquarters in Bratislava, Slovakia, before we hosted in Berlin, Shanghai, Wyoming and most recently, Moscow. The hackathon series grew in prestige and size, with each having a different theme revolving around blockchain solutions and implementations on DCore. The winners of each hackathon received 20,000 DCT to build out their project and mentorship opportunities from our very own DECENT developer team. We’re keen on updating you guys with the results in 2019.

There is much more to come from our hackathon series and although the dates and locations are still being determined, this is definitely something you want to stay tuned for. Thank you so much for following our year in 2018, and we look forward to 2019 and elevating DECENT to the next level, block by block.
