Are you interested in becoming a DCore miner? Then we’ve got some great info for you! With the release of our new voting tool, it’s easier than ever to vote for miners and we thought it would be beneficial to inform you, our loyal community, how to become a DCore miner too. Helping to explain the process, we’ve asked our highest voted miner RoelandP to lend some first-hand insight.
A little about RoelandP — He has been an institutional part of the DCore blockchain since the early days. He has helped more than a few people set up their nodes for mining and is even referred to as the “Yoda” of the mining community due to his wealth of knowledge and willingness to help the community. We are extremely grateful for his continuous top-notch performance.
Now that introductions are out of the way, let’s get to the basics! To become a DCore miner, you must understand that we use a Delegated Proof of Stake (DPoS) consensus model and not Proof of Work (PoW), so there is NO need for heavy computing power to calculate algorithms and find solutions in order to create new blocks and get rewarded.
Instead, it is about having stability through active miners (also called witnesses) who run copies of the DCore software on their dedicated servers and make sure transactions on the network are pushed into blocks, verified and signed off, and then pushed into the chain. It is imperative that these active miners are reliable.
Additionally, miners need to run their servers 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Since DCore produces a block every 5 seconds and currently there are 33 active miners, their server needs to run on a reliable infrastructure.
RoelandP explains that “This is not a ‘come & go’ job. If you are voted in the active miners list, your server will get a block to produce / validate / sign every minute or so. If you have not setup your software correctly, you will miss the block and keep missing blocks until you have figured it out. If you miss blocks, the transactions which are waiting to be added to the blockchain will be moved to the next block & block producer.”
If an active miner is consistently missing blocks, not only are they missing out on the rewards, but they can even be voted out of the active miners list for not being reliable. Only the most reliable and trustworthy miners should be voted to be one of the (currently 33) active miners maintaining our network and with the new miner voting tool, we hope more DCT holders will participate in responsible voting to ensure the safety and longevity of DCore.
