Kakao, Kakao’s artificial intelligence (AI) research subsidiary Kakao Brain and the Center for Superintelligence (CSI) have made public their two-year results of the industry-university collaboration.

Kakao signed an industry-university collaboration agreement with the CSI, a deep learning think tank participated in by eight universities, hospitals and labs including Seoul National University and KAIST.

The collaboration produced 41 research results about deep learning. They include research on voice recognition and synthesis and machine reading and musical creation as well as studies on generating sentences based on image, text and audio data and machine learning algorithms and basic theories. Twenty-nine of the announced results have been listed on such global academic journals as ICLR and NeurIPS

Both sides aimed at carrying out joint research on deep learning including text-to-speech and image data at the time of their collaboration.

“It’s meaningful that a few schools cooperated to produce research results in the field of AI by sharing infrastructure, research manpower, brain cloud and AI technologies,” said Kakao Brain head Kim Nam-ju, adding that “we will take the lead in developing AI technologies through continuous cooperation with the CSI.”
