2018 has been a year of innovations in the smartphone market. We have seen many devices come out with unique and sometimes weird looking designs. It all began when a Chinese smartphone manufacturer Vivo showcased their first prototype of an almost truly bezel-less concept phone called Apex about 6 months ago at a trade show. Going forward, this concept phone morphed into a more complete phone, which could be launched commercially, and it was called the first gen Vivo Nex. It was the first phone with a 91.24% screen to body ratio, making it a notch-less and almost truly bezel-less smartphone. This was the most screen we had on any phone at the time. It was possible to achieve this using a mechanically moving camera for selfies and an under-display fingerprint sensor.

Once Vivo laid the foundation for a truly bezel-less phone, their sister company Oppo soon came out with one of their own bezel-less beauty named the Oppo Find X. This was all a few months ago. More recently, the trends have shifted from a mechanical slider to a physical slider. Phones like Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 and Honor Magic 2 were equipped with the same.

Vivo is set to disrupt the market once again with the second-generation upgrade of their Nex smartphone. Vivo Nex 2 has been in the rumours for quite some time, now. It seems like the company wants to push the limits even further and are planning to do so by making a dual-screen smartphone. That solves the selfie camera placement problem. The rear side of the phone seems to be equipped with a generously big screen and triple cameras with a LED ring. From what we can tell, it will be on the chunkier side of phones much like its predecessor and will be equipped with a USB Type-C port and a 3.5mm jack as well. Yes, they are keeping the jack! The heft of the device is understandable considering they had to cram in two full-sized displays in one phone.

A well-known YouTube creator MrWhoseTheBoss gave us a brief look at the device in one of his videos. Though the device was placed in a heavy case and did not show off the Nex successor in its entirety. With official teasers from Vivo coming out, we can confirm that we will be seeing the device soon. MWC 2019 seems to be the right time and place for Vivo to announce this phone, but there’s no confirmation on the same by the company. We are surely very eager to hear all about the phone and what new innovations it brings along. Are you?

Round-Up

Vivo has been the most active smartphone manufacturer when it comes to bringing in new innovations into the market. Whether it is the first ever under-display fingerprint sensor or an almost true bezel-less display. Vivo is to be appreciated for bringing in these innovations to the smartphone market. Samsungs and Apples of the world could take note, maybe?
