The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is known as ‘The Global Stage for Innovation’ in the sector. It is a platform for various companies and organisations to showcase their advancements in technology through innovative products they created or developed. Sometimes it is purely conceptual, and the tech showcased there might not even reach the end consumer. For the most part though, it is a great platform to launch your upcoming tech products (and ideas), as it is capable of giving you the necessary buzz your offerings deserve!

Every year, companies come with the latest technologies and upgrades for already existing products. They have the power to transform our day-to-day lives. Something or the other always makes headlines or trends at every CES. We are here with the definite trends we could see, this Winter CES!

Control Over Privacy

As technology is advancing, people are getting more and more concerned about their privacy. There have been certain mishaps in the past, like Facebook’s selling of people’s private information, which made them wary of what services and devices they are using. It made everyone question, what data are these companies collecting? Where is it collected and stored? How are they using it? People want to know everything about their personal data, and after considering it, entities at CES made sure people are satisfied.

Google’s Assistant can now backtrack and erase commands. It will give you a rundown of your privacy controls. Amazon announced a new dashboard for its smart security system, Ring. It enabled users to opt out of allowing law enforcement officials to access the users’ video feed. Winston, a VPN alternative, scans digital traffic, blocks ads, filters cookies, and protects your IP address. It makes tracking and surveillance next to impossible.

Vertical Video Formats

After the success of TikTok, lots of other vertical video platforms, like Vivo Video came into existence. This year’s CES was focused on enabling those media and helping them grow.

Quibi, an OTT-streaming platform, adjusts the stream to show both portrait and landscape modes as you rotate. Shows are filmed in both formats and audio is recorded for the same. As you rotate your phone, the video is synced and streamed to your phone. Meg Whitman, the CEO of Quibi, believes that people want a versatile way to view content, whether it’s horizontal or vertical. Following this trend, the tech giant, Samsung, launched its vertical TV, Samsung Sero, which rotates and shifts to vertical and horizontal formats when prompted. If you are watching a vertical video or surfing through your social media, like TikTok or Instagram, a vertical screen will be more suitable for you. You can simply switch your horizontal TV and to a vertical one in a second.

Connected Lifestyle is the Rage

IoT has been the talk of the town for quite a few years and it still remains the same! Though most gadgets at CES 2020 were connected and smart, we saw a specific increase in gadgets which are used in our daily lives. They strive to make our lives easier, and may turn out to be an important part of our lifestyle in the coming years!

Charmin RollBot connects to your phone and brings a fresh toilet paper roll with the help of its app. Charmin SmellSense gives notification to ‘go’ or ‘not to go’ if your bathroom is stinking. U by Moen Smart Faucet works with voice assistants and helps select the perfect temperature and quantity to dispense, after setting a command. Y-Brush toothbrush is an automatic toothbrush that can clean your teeth in 10 seconds. piBo, a smart robot will engage in your day-to-day lives and conversations. Mateo’s Smart Bathroom Mat tracks your weight and notifies you when you have reached a certain milestone.

The uncontested cherry on top of the cake was Samsung’s heartbreakingly adorable and unbelievably efficient IoT-powered ‘smart housekeeper’, Ballie. This cute little ball-shaped robot is capable of more than you can imagine! It is a personalised assistant which is designed to understand and support you and your needs. It is designed to manage your household chores, based on your needs as they arise, without you even knowing it. To top it all off, it’ll even get along with your pets!

Virtual Reality, Mixed Reality, and Augmented Reality, Where are You?

While tampering with reality was the ‘thing’ in the previous CES, this time it didn’t appear much. It was a falling trend which we expected to be more prevalent this year. We hope it makes some kind of a comeback next year!

We’ve mapped out these trends for you, and feel that it’s safe to consider this an outline for what 2020 might have in store for us!

If there’s any trend you noticed and we didn’t, share with us in the comments! Till then, stay tech-to-date!
