WhatsApp Now Available On JioPhone

The long-awaited launch of WhatsApp on JioPhone is finally here. This assumes significance as KaiOS has, in a short time, captured close to 50% of the feature phone market primarily on the back of JioPhone and JioPhone 2. The promise of ‘smarts’ in a feature phone form factor first proved unbeatable for consumers, and now for the world’s largest app makers.

With this, WhatsApp — already the world’s leading messaging platform — gets the chance to cement its leadership position. In fact, in order to ensure a top-notch user experience, the entire app has been rebuilt from the ground up, removing all the frills that could make the app feel bloated on these relatively low powered devices. This move also ensures that users can have a true cross-platform messaging experience.

JioPhone users can go to the social tab in the JioStore and select the app from there. The app will roll out to limited devices starting September 10, 2018 with a complete rollout by September 20, 2018.
