Going Home

“I pledge allegiance to the flag…” It started in kindergarten. We had to stand facing the American flag, placing our right hand over our hearts, and recite a solemn promise to an idea in which my people were never considered a part of.

This series is an exploration and journey to get back to the spirit and philosophy of my Ancestors. Those who were captured, turned into slaves, and brought to the western hemisphere endured so much in order for me to be here. It is only proper for me to honor them by cleansing myself of the mindset of their oppressors. My Ancestors deserve that much from me.
