The Bible Supports Abortion

I Will Prove It To You

It’s really strange to me that evangelical Christians are so obsessed with getting rid of abortions because the Bible actually supports abortion.

We are now on the verge of Roe v. Wade being overturned in America by the Supreme Court, even though there is no way that God would approve of this.

Yet many evangelical Christians will choose which politician they want to vote for solely based on who will help overturn Roe v. Wade.

Some Christians claim the Bible is against abortion because of verses like Jeremiah 1:5, which says:

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to nations.”

They think just because God is saying here that he knew someone before they were born that this now means that they were alive and had a soul before they were born.

That’s not even what God is saying here. He’s saying the opposite actually. He’s bragging about being omniscient because he’s saying he knows who people are even before they’re actually people. It’s not impressive to know who someone is after they’ve become a real person, it’s only impressive that he knows this before they exist.

And another set of verses that Christians use to be anti-abortion is also twisted. Psalm 139:13–16 says:

“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.”

They try to say this means that babies have souls and are already people, but it actually says that in the womb, fetuses are still being made. They aren’t people yet. They have no form yet, according to the Bible and their first day of life hasn’t happened.

It says all the days for me were written before one of them came to be because it’s directly talking about how someone isn’t alive until they are born.

Christians also try to use the Ten Commandments to be against abortion. In particular, the one that says “Thou shalt not kill” or “Thou shalt not murder” according to some translations.

But the Bible also argues that fetuses aren’t alive. It clearly states that someone only has life, according to God, once they take their first breath.

The Bible makes that clear in the description of Adam and how he was created. Genesis 2:7 states:

“Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.”

He only is described as having life once he takes his first breath. Before that, he has no life.

The Bible is so supportive of abortions, in fact, that it has directions about how priests should perform abortions properly in the Old Testament. These verses are in Numbers chapter 5.

It says that if a man suspects that his wife has cheated on him that he can take her to a priest to perform a ritual abortion. He mixes some special kind of bitter water mixture to perform the abortion and the baby will only be successfully aborted if she actually cheated on him.

Let me quote part of the verses for you. Numbers 5:19–22 says:

“Then the priest shall put the woman under oath and say to her, “If no other man has had sexual relations with you and you have not gone astray and become impure while married to your husband, may this bitter water that brings a curse not harm you. But if you have gone astray while married to your husband and you have made yourself impure by having sexual relations with a man other than your husband” — here the priest is to put the woman under this curse — “may the LORD cause you to become a curse among your people when he makes your womb miscarry and your abdomen swell. May this water that brings a curse enter your body so that your abdomen swells or your womb miscarries.

“‘Then the woman is to say, “Amen. So be it.””

So why are Christians so against abortion when the Bible has a ritual description of it being performed under God’s approval?

I know some people will say that the Old Testament laws don’t matter anymore, but I find that confusing since they like to quote the Ten Commandments about not killing people (even though they love soldiers and war) as the reason why abortions are wrong.

Aren’t the Ten Commandments that Christians study and follow and post everywhere on public buildings part of the Old Testament law?

And even if they were right about everything and abortions are wrong, God is one of the biggest abortionists of all time.

Hosea 13:16 is an example of what I am referring to…

“The people of Samaria must bear their guilt, because they have rebelled against their God.

They will fall by the sword; their little ones will be dashed to the ground, their pregnant women ripped open.”

God talks about punishing entire nations and having the uteruses of pregnant ripped open (which is much more violent than an abortion) in many places, including 2 Kings 8:12, 2 Kings 15:16, and Amos 1:13.

Remember, he’s talking about performing violent abortions on entire nations of people in these verses, so that would actually make God the most prolific abortion doctor of all time.

So if it’s wrong, then God and Jesus are evil.

Either way, I don’t know why Christians focus on Roe v. Wade and ignore their own Bible.

Christianity has taken over American culture. As a result, many people have been abused and manipulated by it. The writers of this publication want that to change, so they write articles deconstructing Christianity and all of the harmful beliefs behind it.
