The Burden of Proof
Not knowing an answer is not the same as being wrong.

I don’t exist to criticize religion. Many people feel comforted by their beliefs. As long as they don’t seek to impose their will on others, or in some way do harm to the greater good, I say good for them.
That I discuss religion at all is only because I think of myself as still being legitimately curious, even if the days of blindly accepting the dogma of my past are long gone.
I was raised in a Christian community. We all shared in the same basic practices, education and social interactions. Today I suspect that many of my Christian friends and neighbors were only nominally Christian. Yet, as I indicated, we all seemed the same. I suspect for that reason the curiosity was to why some of us went one way while others went another doesn’t go away.
A Gradual Break
My own de-conversion story does not involve anything brilliant. I wasn’t knocked off a horse by a most brilliant light. My de-conversion came about gradually.
It would be fair to say that I was apathetic about religion into my late teens. I went through the motions but never really took the time to consider the truth…
