A band shares a lot of similarities with a software team. Each member has its own responsibility and both groups work on a mutable product, susceptible to modifications introduced by different people. This can get very messy, and make you lose valuable work and time.

In software development, this issue is addressed with Version Control, whilst in music, it is often dealt with manually.

Version control is a system that records changes to a file or set of files over time so that you can recall specific versions later. It allows you to revert files back to a previous state, revert the entire project back to a previous state, see who last modified something, and more. [ Source ]

Binder’s premise is to streamline collaboration in music production. One place where you can create and manage content, providing a seamless way to integrate yours and your band’s contributions — while being able to access all previous versions of each instrument’s track.

Not only that, but Binder also addresses the people that don’t have an established band. Users can create track applications for their projects. This will generate “openings” for the project, and anyone can apply to collaborate by submitting an audio file.

We are currently working on two different platforms: Android and Web. These were designed to complement each other, prioritizing a different set of features. Android operates more on the content creation side, providing a set of tools that includes: a recorder with a metronome, volume control and panning. The web app focuses more on the management of your projects and band, and also provides ways to help you gather musicians to join your projects.

With this blogpost, we want to share a glimpse of what we are working on. Besides, we are now opening a waiting list for the Beta release. If you want early access to Binder, just subscribe on binder.studio!

Stay tuned! ⚡️

Binder is one of Deemaze’s internal projects. It was developed by André Macedo and me as part of our curricular internship. We’ll post more about the development of each platform and the evolution of the product itself.

If you enjoyed it, share it and send us some feedback. Your suggestions are highly appreciated!
