Deep Dive Coding is having its quarterly Demo Day on Wednesday, September 13th from 5:30pm to 8pm at FatPipeABQ. I want to take a moment to highlight some of the work we have done over the summer and opportunities for employers to connect and collaborate.
Deep Dive Coding now offers a variety of immersive coding bootcamps, including a PHP Fullstack Web Development program, a Microsoft .NET Stack, and a brand new Java/Android Stack. This summer I was challenged with refining the Professional Development curriculum to help bootcamp participants identify what it means to be a programmer rather just a developer that knows how to make websites. Several local employers I have consulted with agree that the power of a bootcamp training environment is that the graduates know how to operate in a fast-paced work environment and they are prepared to learn whatever technology stack the company needs quickly. Bootcamp graduates have the aptitude and attitude to provide value and learn quickly on the job.
Special thanks to all the developers and employers that collaborated with us to give the students real-world learning scenarios such as technical interviews, presentations about the industry, field trips to your offices and work environments, and incorporating us into your networking events. Without these opportunities, these programmers would not be able to visualize themselves working in this industry.
If your company is looking for tech talent, please reach out via our employers page. There you can find several options for connecting with our grads, including setting up tech internships at your organization. I am always happy to meet and learn about your tech talent needs. In our alumni database of over 200 developers, it is certain that there is a programmer that can fit your needs.
Finally, Demo Day is an event for local employers and developers to come together and create business opportunities for the local ecosystem. As the tech industry grows, our public and private institutions will need to invest into our local startups and developers. Demo Day is a great opportunity for us to show that the State has got tech talent and bootcamps are a crucial part of the larger initiative to incubate tech talent in New Mexico. So, if you are a local employer or developer, I hope you can join us at Demo Day.
Here is a sneak peek at some of the teams and the projects they created this summer:
Wheels Around Town (WAT) is an app to rate local spaces on how accessible they are for wheel-based people. When you are wheel-bound, getting around can be challenging. WAT has both a web and mobile environment where users can connect and share feedback/photos/resources with other wheel-bound people, their families, and friends.
Hexed-0x29b is an old-school rpg game. Players collect as many artifacts as they can in the allotted time in order to get the highest score possible.
Foodquisition is a website that shows users the inspection results at their favorite Albuquerque restaurants allowing them to make better informed dining choices.
Albuquerque Town Hall is a virtual Town Hall, based on Albuquerque. People can log on and post questions in their district. Ideally, we can get the councilmen/women to log on to answer these questions.
Deep Dive Tutor is a web application that gives Deep Dive Bootcamp students the ability to reach out to Deep Dive Alumni for tutoring. Students can pair up with tutors based on their needs and the strengths of the tutors. This will help with the student’s success as well as keep our alumni community connected with our current students.
