Why is there a roadblock of good kickers in MUT?
“Laces out, Dan!” may be the most famous quote about a kicker in history. Other than that, no one really gives a shit about these real-life lawn gnomes, unless you’re a Vikings fan writing a death threat to Blair Walsh.
However, Madden Ultimate Team has made it a point to change that and placed a major roadblock in completing Gauntlet challenges: a decent kicker.
The “45-Yard Field Goal” challenge inside of the Veteran Gauntlet challenges set can’t be completed with the standard kickers that are handed out at the start of your MUT journey. Go ahead and try it. Your mighty-midget-wonder-boy will fall short miserably. That means people are scrambling to the auction house and paying through the nose for these tiny heroes.
At the time of this writing, kickers like 78 overall Wil Lutz (who?) are going for prices of 18,000 coins with Buy Now prices upwards of 30,000. For a kicker. Let me type that again. 18k for a 78 overall kicker.
It gets even more insane when you look at Dan Bailey, an 83 overall kicker, who just sold for 49,750 coins.
It’s interesting to see such an obvious roadblock jammed into the middle of a mid-level solo challenge. It was certainly intentional, which may be a sign of things to come: Spots within MUT challenges that force you to hit the auction house or play Russian Roulette with a fully loaded gun and buy packs.
Long story short — If you can find a deal on a kicker with KPW over 70, grab them now and unload for a nice chunk of coin once the hordes hit this very intentional logjam.
Update: Thanks to Reddit user /u/fuzzeemonkey for pointing out that you can put a punter in as your kicker with some success early on. The good news — I just bought a punter with 77 kick power and 83 kick accuracy for half the price of a kicker with the same attributes, will update after testing:
Update #2: Punters are nerfed when put in as kickers. They don’t have the same kick power, even if they are rated higher than a kicker in at that position.
