In the future, cars will be heavily relied on the sensors for proper functioning. For this Ford has filed for a new patent that could provide a kind of backup for onboard vehicle sensors.

Ford’s patent revolve around having a drone dock with a car whose sensors are failed or throwing errors, and lending the vehicle its own onboard sensor as a substitute.

It’s actually a tricky and super-clever work structure that will add extravehicular redundancy to highly automated vehicles. As of now, this is just a patent application, and Ford need to work a plenty of times to work out the hurdles.
