A graduate student team at the Johns Hopkins University Information Security Institute (JHUISI) has successfully established the protection of UAV’s from cyber attacks. According to JHUISI, the partners implemented a secured type of sense-and-avoid (SAA) technology. The team sought to improve the way UAV’s share their locations using automatic dependent surveillance- broadcast (ADS-B) messages.

To prevent the cyber attacks, the students developed an ADS-B system using a cryptographic software library developed by OnBoard. Aerolink says that the newly developed system provides message authentication and integrity-checking for protection against these attacks.

The team of JHUISI is leading the way to safer and more secure drone operations through message authentication.
