Most of us check our phone within 5 seconds of waking. The internet is taking up more and more of our waking hours. Social media is becoming our default form of escapism. In this world of distraction, isn’t it only natural to question what this technology means for the majority of us?

Ill be addressing the most pressing questions that people have. Bare with me, because this post will show you why the internet is actually making us better not worse. It will demonstrate why the internet is important, and why the future is going to allow us to be more honest and upfront. It will allow us to freely express ourselves more.

The Most “Internesting” Questions

The internet raises many questions which should be carefully considered if we are to use it to its full advantage. Lets see what these are:

  • How do we stay anonymous?
  • How do we protect data/identity?
  • Are we 100% dependent on the internet now?

Cloud Computing: The world of cloud has a massive impact on the world. However, what has been the enviornmental impact of this? How do we fight that?

IOT: These devices that allow us to seamlessly control our temprature, are they sharing data to government agency?

Social: What to do about cyberbullying, terrorism and safety?

Mobile: As we spend more and more time being always connected, what if you want quiet time? It is becoming increasing difficult to detatch. What do we do?

  • Work is always giving you notifications. Is this necessary?
  • If you’re constantly looking down, wont there be more accidents?

Wearable tech

  • Who is tracking us?
  • Dangerous to check while driving?
  • Are we becoming even more absent?

Robotics/Self Driving Cars

  • What happens to the transport industry?
  • Who will take blame for accident?
  • UAVs (drones): civil and military airspace?

AI

  • Who is responsible for wrong decisions?

3D Printing for everything

  • What about manufacturing/logistics/transport?
  • Stop weapons?
  • What about IP?

Big data

  • Will know more about you than you?

Quantum computing

  • How can we stop them from hacking into everything with so much computing power?

We Need A Strategy To Act As A Siv

Whats A Strategy?

A strategy is when you are planning a method of achieving a goal, which is a measurable destination for you, or an organisation.

What are the types of strategy in an organisation?

  • Financial, IT, Business, corporate, marketing,.. Everything

What is digital strategy?

  • A digital strategy refers to WHO, WHAT, WHEN, HOW, WHERE, WHY
  • The funnel can be a continuious cycle (no end)
  • watch our TV ad that drives to our website where you can get a link to our mobile app that interacts with our print ads
  • Metrics for good strategy?
  • Cost, time, effectiveness, novelty, consistency

How to implement a new strategy?

  • Formulation -> implementation -> fit and performance measurements
  • Create a platform for creating strategies (ideathons in company)
  • Eg:
  • Social purpose -> regulatory demands (KPIs) -> more proactive and modern systems

Levels of strategy?

  • Competitive/Business strategy: Outline competitive advantages
  • Group/Corporate strategy: How each business unit is integrated with others
  • Product/Service strategy: strategy for one product line
  • Operational strategy: to do with business operations

Will IT Make My Business Better?

IT has a very large effect on making a business more competitive. In an era where market leadership is crucial, IT helps us add barriers to entry, which protects us in case a competitor arises. IT can also help protect against Macro economic and social conditions, politics and market volatility.

Types of Strategies

We need to decide whether we will take a business or technology driven approach. This will also depend on whether we use strategy to formulate our goals or use a bottom-up problem solving approach

The 3 Main Targets for A Digital Strategy

Operational backbone

  • Includes systems, infrastructure, people
  • Focus on Operational efficiency and standardization
  • Computer systems used at a bank

Customer engagement

  • Personalisation, faster service and better engagement
  • Customer home loan journey

Digitized solutions

  • Solving customer problems
  • Focus also on organizational maturity

Create operationally efficient decisions?

Need to maximise capabilities and minimise relative costs.

Follow The Leaders

Here is how big companies are strategising in the digital world:
