Defactor Governance Vote

The Next Defactor Community Governance Vote

TLDR Version: Defactor is preparing for its next community governance vote. An update to the community governance framework. The current governance framework allows signal and support voting, but the Defactor team has proposed a new framework that would allow for the creation of community governance committees across the four key pillars.

A yes vote would usher in the new framework, while a no vote would stick with the current one. Participants must have at least one FACTR token to be eligible to vote. Snapshot for the vote will be taken at 12:00 UTC July 17th 2023.

The New Governance Framework

Framework allows for the creation of community governance committees (CGCs) for each of the four key pillars of the Defactor.

  • Technology & Innovation
  • Community
  • Governance
  • Liquidity & Finance

This vote is to establish the first Governance committee which will then work on shaping an effective framework for future groups to ensure alignment with our mission to accelerate the adoption & tokenisation of real world assets (RWAs) in decentralised finance.

Community members can propose new motions that will be reviewed by the CGCs and then selected for a community vote on the defactor community portal https://engage.defactor.com

  • Committee members will need to have a $FACTR balance to be considered
  • Decision making process will initially follow a ⅔ + 1 approach

This new framework will allow our community to have an active voice in decision making and direction and will form the basis for moving effective decision making out to the edges to improve speed and agility.

The governance committee will be voted on by the community, which will ensure that the committees are composed of members with the necessary expertise to add value.

A yes vote will usher in the new framework and allow for these committees to be created and funded.

Sticking With the Current Framework

If the community votes no, this will mean that the community will stick with the current framework of signal and support through the Engage platform. While this framework has been successful so far, it may not be able to handle the growing complexity of the governance system as the protocol continues to grow.

A no vote will mean that the community is not ready to move forward with changes in our governance approach and further proposals will be presented for consideration in the future.

The new governance framework will provide the community with greater control over the governance of the protocol, which will ultimately lead to a more secure and stable platform. Therefore, please carefully consider the proposed changes and make your decision based on what you believe will be in the best interest for our eco-system.
