Generative AI for Secure Systems

Defense Unicorns is excited to announce the development of LeapfrogAI, a new open source project that accelerates secure Generative AI solutions for mission customers in highly regulated environments such as the Department of Defense, Intelligence Community, and commercial enterprises.

The pace of innovation in the open source Generative AI space is astounding. As AI “eats the world”, open source models will continue to close the gap with commercial and proprietary models. General purpose AI models that are common in commercial/SaaS offerings are transforming how businesses operate because they are capable of so many different types of tasks. However, these general purpose models will often fail to outperform much smaller open source models that have either been fine-tuned or augmented with mission-specific data.

Defense Unicorns is building LeapfrogAI to enable our military, our financial systems, and other secure enterprises to leverage their data advantage by bringing AI capabilities in-house in a secure, reliable and easy to use platform. Leapfrog AI provides the ability to use open source models, fine-tune them with mission data, create and search embeddings for building retrieval-augmented generation systems. Leapfrog AI brings the capabilities in-house needed to build transformative AI solutions to make mission impact.

LeapfrogAI allows mission-focused users to:

• Deliver new Generative AI capabilities in minutes
• Provide security and compliance artifacts that meet regulatory requirements
• Leverage their data to fine-tune models
• Retain control of their data and fine-tuned models
• Deploy AI solutions to the cloud, on-prem and the edge

LeapfrogAI builds on top of classified and unclassified cloud, on-prem, or edge infrastructure to support the mission, wherever the mission goes. While development is still early, first adopters for LeapFrogAI can be found across the Department of the Navy and the United States Space Force, building on top of and integrating with the Department of Defense’s Big Bang and OpenShip capabilities.
