Donald Trump Is Afraid, Can’t Sleep
by DAVID AXE
For a few hours on Jan. 25, 2017, someone claiming to be a “mid-level White House staffer” tweeted about conditions in Donald Trump’s White House in the first week following the self-dealing con-man’s inauguration as the United States’ 45th president.
“I can’t believe I’m doing this but until I lose my job, I’m going to tell you what I see and hear in the @realDonaldTrump adminstration,” the leaker wrote. There is no way to verify the tweeter’s authenticity.
Twitter-user MC Rantz Hoseley took screenshots of the tweets. The Daily Kos helpfully compiled them.
If the leak is for real, it paints a portrait of a paranoid, unprepared president who is quickly collapsing under the strain of his responsibilities — not to mention the overwhelming opposition to his irresponsible, autocratic and ultimately self-interested policies.
“I have very little access to President #Trump himself but my boss does,” the staffer tweeted. “He is absolutely demoralized by the unsteadiness of #POTUS.”
For the record, the leaker is not some Democratic plant. “I’m not on your team,” they tweeted to apparent progressives celebrating the leaks. “I’m a demoralized and dejected Republican.”
“I wanted to believe in #PresidentTrump [but] it’s just a disaster right now,” the staffer added. “I knew it would be somewhat hectic and disorganized. I never expected this. It feels like drowning.”
The leaker confirmed as “correct” The New York Times’ description of Trump’s health and state of mind in the first few days of his presidency. “Trump had less than 4 hours of sleep on Saturday [Jan. 21],” the Times’ Maggie Haberman tweeted, adding that Trump woke up and, seeing the National Park Services’ tweets about the small size of Trump’s inauguration crowd, immediately began “accusing media of being out to get him.”
“Trump’s worst impulse control is when he’s tired or overstretched, or in an uncertain situation,” Haberman added. “All three took place Saturday.”
The staffer described Trump’s thinking — or lack thereof — on several important issues.
Abortion
“Funny thing is, @realDonaldTrump doesn’t give a crap about abortion. His words, ‘It doesn’t affect me, so why should I care if it exists?’”
Obamacare
“Word to the wise … @realDonaldTrump has no idea how to fix Obamacare. He still doesn’t know what a high risk pool is.”
Crime
“#President Trump is deadly serious” about sending federal forces to Chicago if that city can’t reduce violent crime. “He wants to send in the National Guard.”
Immigration
“Just got out of a long meeting on border wall structure and placement. There is no plan yet. No idea how to deal with the difficult terrain.”
‘Voter fraud’
Falsely claiming that millions of people illegally voted in the 2016 presidential election, Trump has threatened to launch a massive voter-fraud investigation. “He only wants to investigate states he lost,” the leaker confirmed. “This will look bad.”
The Dow
On news that the Dow had climbed past 20,000 for the first time, the staffer claimed that Trump “is taking credit for this. Literally asking staffers to pat him on the back.”
“He thinks this is his win.”
The cabinet
Vice President Mike Pence “has been swearing in nominees because several want distance from Trump,” the staffer claimed. Some cabinet members “don’t want pictures with [Trump].”
The leaker’s account went dark the same day it launched. “A crackdown on leaks has been threatened,” the staffer tweeted shortly before their account disappeared.
At this rate, Trump won’t last his entire first term — to say nothing of winning re-election.
Stay defiant.
