When Margarita Juanita Sharon Sandoval moved in with her sister and brother-in-law in January 2018, it must have seemed like a new start for the intellectually disabled woman — yet the couple stands accused of a sinister plot to murder her and use her identity for money, according to a 2022 statement from the Norman Police Department (NPD).

Desiree Fransen (aka Desiree Sanchez), 27, and her husband, 35-year-old Octavio Sanchez, of Oklahoma City, were arrested and charged with first-degree murder and unauthorized removal of a dead body, the statement says.

Both were also charged federally with conspiracy to commit a crime against the United States and aggravated identity theft, Law & Crime says. Fransen was receiving Sandolov’s Social Security Disability checks, as Sandolov had a cognitive disability. Family members last heard from Sandolov on February 18, 2018, after which she vanished.

On June 5, 2023, Law & Crime reported that the couple were sentenced for these charges.

Fransen and Sanchez allegedly continued to collect Sandolov’s checks after her disappearance right up until May 13, 2021, when the body was discovered.
