Joanne Zephir: New details emerge about mother accused of making daughters drink bleach; trial upcoming this summer

The State of Florida announced they are seeking the death penalty against a woman to face trial for allegedly murdering one of her daughters.

A 38-year-old mother named Joanne Zephir called a family member in May 2022 telling her that she had, according to Osceola Sheriff Marcos Lopez, killed her three-year-old daughter. The eight-year-old was also going to die before Zephir allegedly planned on killing herself.

At a May 11, 2022 press conference, Lopez outlined what police believe happened on the afternoon of Sunday, May 8, when Zephir allegedly told a family member she was going to turn herself into the police for her involvement in a stabbing. But first, she wanted to spend some time with her two daughters.

Police say that Zephir parked her car outside of the Pentecostal Church of God in Poinciana before allegedly forcing her daughters to ingest bleach from what police call makeshift cups, strangled the three-year-old, then tried to kill herself.
