Kelly Watford: Mother arrested for son’s drowning death after telling police he died of allergies

When Judge Russell Bush saw crime scene photos of six-year-old Sullivan Watford, weighing an emaciated 21 pounds at the time of his death, WRBL reported that Bush expressed his horror when he said it was “like nothing he has ever seen outside of Holocaust documentaries.”

Sullivan’s parents, Kelly West Watford, 47, and her husband, Mark Edward Watford, were arrested after his death on June 14, 2023, according to a statement from the Auburn Police Department (APD), posted to their website on June 15, 2023.

Kelly has been charged with felony murder, the statement continues, while Mark faces a charge of aggravated child abuse.

The APD, Auburn Fire Department, and Emergency Medical Service personnel responded to the Watford home on the 2200 block of Core Drive in Auburn, Alabama on June 14, 2023, the statement says. The young boy was not breathing and unresponsive. Personnel began life-saving measures while he was transported to the East Alabama Health center (EAH), where measures continued. Sadly, Sullivan was pronounced dead by attending physicians at EAH.
