Hey! Ivo
Recently we’ve had the pleasure of sending out four brews from Orbit Beers; a great brewery in Kennington, South London. Orbit is about 2 things: beer (mostly German ones) and music. And puns. Three things: beer, music and puns. Take a look…
NICO (4.8%)
Kölsch is a style of beer that takes its name from the German city of Cologne. Another famous export of Cologne is Nico, a girl born into a long line of brewers, but more famous for her work with The Velvet Underground in the ‘60s.
PEEL SESSION (4.3%)
John Peel used to have arguably the most important radio show on the airwaves. Until his sad departure in 2004, the Peel Sessions were the first major airplay for hundreds of new bands. This session strength Belgian Blonde is Orbit’s tribute to the great man himself. Play it at the wrong speed.
NEU (4.7%)
Altbier, German for “old beer”, is a style of beer brewed in the “old” style — closer to a traditional British ale than these newfangled lagers. And of course the only band to name a traditional German old beer after is the Krautrock band NEU!
IVO (5.3%)
Orbit recently produced a new beer called “Hey!” with a label designed by Vaughan Oliver. Vaughan Oliver designed the album artwork for the Pixies. The Pixies were signed to a label called 4AD. 4AD was started by a chap called Ivo Watts-Russell. Ivo is the guy that this Pale Ale is named after.
As luck would have it, “Where is my mind? The work of Vaughan Oliver & the Pixies” is on now at the University of Greenwich Galleries, and is totally worth a look if you’re able to make it over.
