Delivery Hero’s impressions of the AWS Summit 2019
by Christos Skevis
Delivery Hero’s DevOps team was very excited to attend this year’s AWS Summit in Berlin. It was a great opportunity to network with fellow DevOps engineers, potential service partners, and the greater AWS community.
At Delivery Hero’s booth we had lots of interesting conversations about not only our architecture, but also how DevOps practices are relevant to Machine Learning. We also shared how Delivery Hero is employing AWS across our platforms.
We were excited to have two of our own engineers giving talks on Wednesday. Kateryna Khotkevych, Software Engineer, explained in “This is my architecture” how we use API Gateway, Lambda, Kinesis & SNS to optimize our business processes.
Our Senior Director of Engineering for Logistics, Vojtech Vondra presented how his team’s decision to run spot instances on Kubernetes made our services more cost effective and resilient.
One of our many goals during the Summit was to learn more about EKS, Amazon’s newly managed Kubernetes service which we are currently rolling out in our environment. We attended sessions to learn more about it. It was very interesting for us to participate in a Q&A session with AWS’s technical architects who gave us more in depth information about upcoming developments.

Being part of the AWS community is a great opportunity to grow personally and professionally. I’m already looking forward to next year’s conference!
