Working with volunteers is immensely rewarding, and they constantly surprise, inspire and remind me that people can be so giving and generous of their time and skills. So when it come to recognising this and giving back to them, you don’t want it to fall short.

Being the lead for a volunteering department, you have to have so many skills, and in this instance, this includes ‘virtual’ event planning.

Volunteer Long Service and Outstanding Contribution Awards ceremony 2021

The department are planning our virtual volunteer awards ceremony this year, and learning how best to do this. It is hard to replicate the feeling of being in a room together celebrating, but we still aim to make if feel special. The aim of the event is to recognise the support of individuals who have reached their 5 year milestones, all the way up to our volunteers who have now reached 35 years of support.

How are we doing this?

  • We have identified a format for the event, choosing a pre-recorded option which goes live on-line at a set time and date
  • We have created a plan of action and assigned tasks to share across the team
  • We have created an awards nomination process for the outstanding contribution elements and a scoring process to decide the winners
  • We identified all those who were due long service awards
  • We have agreed the date for the awards to go live

Next

  • So now it’s time for us to pull all this together and we hope to have an engaging and well received virtual awards event
  • After the event we will gather feedback and do a round up of how it went to learn for any future events.

Let’s see how how we get on…
