Training to climb a ‘mountain’

This coming July I’m going to climb Mont Blanc. At the same time, I — with the help of colleagues, Deloitte, CAST and Deepr — hope to have conceived, shaped and implemented a digital platform which transforms how we work at Catch 22.

Now, have I trained for the climb? Well, sort of, I did a 40 minute spin class this week. Small steps, so to speak. Similarly given the transformative digital idea, I’ve recognised the need and barriers to getting there, but no results as yet.

While my legs still bare the aches of the class, the digital plan is, well, bare.

What will we do?

I hear you. There are three areas we could make the most impact with digital at Catch 22:

  • Front line services. Building a digital-only service and/or build a digital adjunct to an existing service
  • Efficiency. Make our internal processes smoother and frictionless where possible.
  • Impact. A digital framework and intentional suite of tools could help us define and measure impact, enabling us to demonstrate the power of our work and talk more persuasively.

What’s Next?

Take a clinical view — what will have the biggest positive effect in the quickest amount of time. I’ll do this with CAST’s superb support and experience.

This is the end of my second week in a new role and organisation so you’ll forgive me if I take some advice from the excellent broadcaster and writer Simon Reeve’s and just keep putting one foot in front of the other.
