Weeknote 2 — Books, books, books
Monday
I managed to grab a day at work on Monday before heading to Paris for a few days. It worked well as gave me time to check in with the team, all of whom have a busy week planned. School holidays are always a little odd with many people out of the ‘business’, but it often presents a good opportunity for those who aren’t to get on with some things that they have been unable to get to, while there are fewer distractions. I think I have a responsibility to facilitate that - and by scheduling in some ‘post-holiday’ follow-up meetings, I think it helps to keep the momentum.
Signed off right on time today to ensure my two teenager girls repack their bags for two days, not two weeks (who takes several coats away for two days? 🙄
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
3 wonderful days in Paris with the girls (the other half was working but to be honest I don’t think he fancied the look of the itinerary. On two out of three days we visited what is, in my daughter’s opinion, the best booksop in the world.
We came out £60 lighter which I didn’t think was too bad, considering. There is a lovely reading room where you can while away hours if not days, if you like to read, and a wonderful collection of English language books (new and second hand). The shop is complimented by a café where you can sit and people watch in front of the Notre-Dame. Missing it already, but all good things must come to an end.
Friday
Back to earth (and work) with a bang. I accepted a new job 3 weeks ago and it’s already 18th February and I only have 2 months left to tie everything up. Grateful for the meetings I had scheduled with the team ahead of the break to find out how they got on with their projects as this really helped me prioritise and I managed to tick one big-ticket item off the list. Now looking forward to Monday and starting on the rest, but not before catching up with some old friends over the weekend and booking us all on another trip to Paris and a visit to Shakespeare and Co.
