Each top floor penthouse suite boasts a terrace with 360 degree views of the old city of Ibiza

May 2018 | Sir Joan, the first Spanish property for Sir Hotels, enjoys its first full summer season this year. Nestled prominently in the centre of Ibiza and open all-year round, Sir Joan overlooks the stunning port and old town, celebrating a nostalgic era whilst catering to the needs of the modern traveller. Connecting guests and locals with the vibrant Ibizan community, Sir Explore, the experience initiative from Sir Hotels, launches here in May. The new program offers guests bespoke activities which connect them to unique experts in the community and allow them to experience the beautiful island through the eyes of the locals. Options include private tours, wellness experiences, food-driven experiences and artisan focused workshops.

The fifth Sir Hotel to open since 2013, Sir Joan consists of 38 rooms and suites, including two penthouses, a pool, cabanas, two restaurants and a bar. Each top floor penthouse suite boasts a terrace with 360 degree views of the old city of Ibiza, outdoor seating, a private cabana and an open-air kitchen. Penthouse guests can also enjoy a private IZAKAYA dining experience with one of the restaurants chefs.

As with all Sir Hotels, it was essential that Sir Joan reflects the ethos of the surrounding area. We were inspired by the marina, the ocean, but also by the people on the island. By combining contemporary design with nostalgic details, we aimed to create a unique urban oasis at the heart of the world-famous island,” comments Liran Wizman, owner and founder of Sir Hotels.

The interiors of Sir Joan are designed by award-winning architects and interior designers Baranowitz + Kronenberg, and pay homage to yacht-living and the ocean. Barcelona-based Architects Ribas & Ribas have created a unique and contemporary checkered façade in the heart of the island, just steps away from famous clubs such as Pacha and Lio. The property boasts a collection of curated artworks featuring work from Spanish art legend Joan Hernández Pijuan and Carlos Irijalba, alongside photographs from Ibiza-based photographer Landry A.

The ground floor public areas evoke a ‘members only’ social club. Inside, vertical corrugated steel bars line up along the interior walls, resonating with naval ropes and the erosion of metal by the sea, while the outside area boasts a triangular pool, heated throughout the winter season and lined with cabanas and lounge chairs.

The public space blends the outside into the inside, and is home to one of the property’s two restaurants, IZAKAYA Asian Kitchen & Bar, the island’s newest hotspot. Originating in Amsterdam, the iconic restaurant offers guests and locals a culinary experience of contemporary Japanese cuisine fused with Peruvian flavors.

The second restaurant, THE BUTCHER, is an award-winning, high end burger bar that is accessed through a separate entrance. The popular Amsterdam eatery will be open throughout the night, ideal for the island’s late-night revellers.

Both restaurants are founded and owned by Yossi Eliyahoo and Liran Wizman of THE ENTOURAGE GROUP.
