“Privacy without compromise”

Spirit of Son Fuster Alaró Baleares by Spirit of the Nomad will begin its first season in March 2022 — an informal mix of organic farm living and modern facilities. This private ‘farm mansion’ belonging to Swedish hotelier Mats Wahlström is currently one of the most exceptional places to stay in Mallorca. Situated in a spectacular location with views of the twin peaks of Alaró, the main house, dating back to the 13th century, stands on a plot of some forty hectares on which fruit, vegetables and black truffles are grown, part of the “farm-to-table” concept of the Spirit of Son Fuster. Here, guests can expect a completely reimagined and sustainable luxury finca experience. It’s our hot tip when planning a holiday in 2022.

The epitome of a modern wellness brand

Mats Wahlström has already shown his ability to implement new trends ahead of their time, and without compromise, when he opened the Puro Hotel in Palma, Mallorca in 2004. He paired minimalist interior design with sophisticated gastronomy, and the bar that opened onto the restaurant quickly became the place to meet, and brought together locals and hotel guests. Shortly afterwards, the Puro Beach Clubs opened in the Mediterranean and the Middle East. Still today there are few locations in Mallorca in summer more popular for a day by the sea than Puro Beach Palma and Puro Beach Illetas. Since 2014 the Puro Group has been managed by a Spanish company.

Nearly twenty years after he founded his Puro labels, Mats Wahlström, who now lives in Switzerland has unveiled his new interpretation of a wellness holiday in Mallorca — with his new ‘Spirit of the Nomad’ brand, aimed at a grown up target group.

“After years of exploring beaches and cities, I was drawn to the countryside. The Son Fuster estate is a private hideaway, it is where I invite my family and friends. Here there is plenty of space for everyone to relax but also for everyone to come together, too. It was a challenge to bring the finca up to date with the latest technology, to make life there comfortable. We put a lot of thought into making it as sustainable as possible, which was really exciting. We generate our electricity with our own solar park.”

Extras include flying to Ibiza by helicopter for lunch

The location Mats Wahlström chose for his latest project is Alaró, a small town of 5,000 inhabitants, some 24 kilometres from Palma. The region is well known for its spectacular landscape around the historic Castell d’Alaró. Following its soft opening in winter 2021, Spirit of Son Fuster will officially open in March 2022 as a private luxury hotel with ten double rooms, designed for corporate meetings and private groups of up to 20 people. Here, management teams, large families and friendship groups will find a private space without compare and a range of leisure facilities not offered by any other private finca in Mallorca.

In addition to the rooms in the main house which include conference rooms, a dining room, a cinema, a billiard room and a nightclub decorated in 70’s style, the extensive property offers many more opportunities for joint activities. The generous pool area with sun loungers and Moroccan Berber tents is somewhere to meet up, as well as a wellness area with the ‘Shark Tank’, steam room, sauna, massage and beauty treatment suite, and a Cellgym® for cell regeneration through altitude training. For those keen on sport there is a volleyball court, and a yoga and meditation area. From March 2022 they will be joined by a fitness studio and a padel court. Hiking, jogging and cycling trails run past the farm’s paddock into the Tramuntana Mountains. Extras include horse riding in the surrounding area accompanied by a guide and a helicopter trip to Ibiza for lunch. Guests are looked after by a service team consisting of a concierge, cook, house keepers, technicians and gardeners — 24 hours a day if required. The service style is informal and discreet, very much like that on a private yacht. A Range Rover or Viano is available for airport transfers.

“Switch off to regroup”

So far, so good. There are a couple of other details to mention. A music fan himself, Mats Wahlström has installed a Bose music system throughout the property so that guests can listen to their favourite sounds wherever they are. His recommendation is, “Zap through our play list on the patio, from hip-hop to opera.” He has also brought his personal touch to the interior design, with a mix of styles and art — treasures he has collected over his years of travelling. He himself describes it as “Historic Spain meets North Africa meets the American West, modern and informal.” The furniture, fabrics and building materials are largely 100% natural, made of wood, linen, wool and camel hair. And even in the kitchen Mats leaves nothing to chance. The food is varied, healthy and fresh; organic produce is grown either on the farm or sourced locally. High-quality meat and fish are served in bowls, rustic style, alongside vegetables, salads and vegan dishes. For grazing in-between, there is a selection of fruit, cakes and healthy snacks, along with drinks at the self-service bar.

This journey is only just beginning. There is much more to say about the lifestyle on the farm. You can find further information about the organic finca ‘Spirit of Son Fuster Alaró Baleares’ in the online brochure. We can heartily recommend a visit to this Mallorquin ‘possesió’ in the New Year. “Disconnect in order to connect.”
