2019 was a big year for Delve! More than anything it was incredibly rewarding to hear about all the research conducted on Delve.

LaiYee and I created Delve because we deeply believe in the power of using interviews and qualitative analysis to make meaning of the world. We’re so excited to build a tool that helps researchers who share that value.

Most exciting changes to Delve in 2019

Here are some of the most exciting things we brought to Delve in 2019!

  1. Researchers had asked us for an easier way to quickly browse their transcripts, so we created a new, intuitive, and beautiful look for transcripts.
  2. The ability to seamlessly manage your themes and codes is essential for qualitative analysis. We launched the ability to Merge Codes to streamline this process.
  3. While we strive to improve the research analysis process, seamless importing and exporting saves researchers a lot of time. So we launched the ability to drag and drop transcripts into Delve and export your research analysis.

We also did a whole bunch of performance and usability improvements, that researchers with particularly large projects may have noticed!

In this big-data world, we’re always trying to spread the good news of qualitative analysis. Here are three of our favorite pieces from 2019.

  1. LaiYee and I had a blast being interviewed on Adam Glamwell’s This AnthroPodcast. We talked about one of our favorite subjects of how qual and quant can work together.
  2. We wrote about how two researchers at the non-profit, DonorsChoose, uncovered opportunities to help teachers. It was an honor for Delve to be used for such a great cause.
  3. LaiYee spoke at EPIC conference about ethnography’s role in fighting bias in Artificial Intelligence (This will be posted in the EPIC archives in a month or so, but if you’re interested in hearing it before then, we can send you one of her practice recordings!)

Delving into 2020

2020 is going to be an exciting year for Delve! We just wrapped up an extensive qualitative research study where we spoke to researchers about their Delve experience. We can’t wait to share the changes and improvements that the research inspired.

In the age of big data, qualitative research is more important than ever, because it captures the lived experience. So thank you to all the researchers using Delve, but also to everyone who conducts qualitative research!

Happy New Year!

We’re working on an educational web series about qualitative coding. Check out a sneak preview here and there will be more coming soon!
