A poem about the world within

If Our Eyes Could Look Inward

We would see a marvelous machine

If only we could see inside
the galaxies within our mind

if we could catch a glimpse, a sight,
to watch our synapses ignite…

If we could only see the show
the masterful electric glow

the dendrites as they spark and grow
how are we supposed to know?

If only we could understand
the mystery, the master plan

if we could look at our own hands
we’d see the lightyears that we span.

If we could dip into the wells
if we could swim beside our cells

We’d read the stories that they tell.
We’re so much more than empty shells.
