The traditional global approach of the treatment of dental caries have focused on repairing the consequences of the caries rather than addressing disease itself. Advances in caries microbiology, caries detection, risk assessment, pulp therapy, and non-surgical and surgical management is fundamentally shifting the standards of caries management.
