Winning in the Digital Economy

An acquisition is a big decision, but it was the right time for Leapfrog. They had pioneered a unique marketing conversion technology, one that allowed them to deliver real-time, personalized consumer experiences throughout the entire path to purchase, from initial impression to conversion.

For Leapfrog, the key question as a business was “how do we capture all the opportunity now in play?” The answer was clear: join forces with a great company (iProspect) to grow in scale and extend the benefits of the technology to a wider client base. A winning formula.

We sat down with CEO & Co-Founder Dave Husain and President & Co-Founder Scott Epskamp so they could tell us the full Leapfrog story.

So Dave Husain … tell us what you do!

Simple…in our crazy, fast-paced digital world, I work every day to keep us focused on a clear path forward as a business, constantly looking for ways to spur innovation from the talented team at Leapfrog and keep us accountable to deliver measurable business results. A no-brainer.

Scott Epskamp… tell us what you do!

As one of the Co-Founders, I led the acquisition discussions and the process associated with acquisition. In addition, I lead the finance team and a number of the corporate functions. I will continue to lead aspects of the iProspect integration to ensure our collective vision is implemented.

What does Leapfrog specialise in?

Leapfrog is a performance marketing solutions company. We primarily focus on personalized content delivery through 1st and 3rd party data integration. In short, we combine people, process & tech to deliver amazing conversion lift results for clients.

Which markets do you operate in?

We operate in North America and most of our clients are here in the U.S. By industry category, we have deep experience in Telecom, EDU, Financial Services & Home Services. We’ve also supported clients in Auto, CPG & Retail.

What did you know about Dentsu Aegis Network before you joined?

That Dentsu Aegis Network was an ambitious and fast growing holding company driving to be all digital by 2020. Over the years, we’ve intersected both with Accordant & Merkle before the DAN acquisition(s). Great adds which align strategically and affirm an ability to deliver on the DAN 2020 objective.

In addition, we studied the marketplace and had professional resources helping us. As is usually the case with effective relationships, we learned a lot throughout our discussions. As we meet with more DAN colleagues, we’ll quickly learn more, for sure!

What made you decide you wanted to be a part of the Network?

Early on we felt there was a great cultural fit. These are people we could relate to and work with to really grow the business. The commitment to digital and the aggressive timeline to get there were very important to us. The acquisitions of 2016 were clear signals of the “How” of the 2020 objective. They served as an affirmation of both the opportunity and the intent to succeed which we had sensed early on.

What are you most looking forward to as a new member of the group?

We are looking forward to growing fast and integrating our capabilities into the iProspect strategic offering. Meeting new and talented colleagues who will spur even faster innovation going forward.

What are your key priorities for this year?

Our key priorities for 2017 are to grow our client base, refine our scale capacity and deliver on our financial objectives.

If you could summarise Dentsu Aegis Network in one word?

Ambitious.

And finally… if your brand could be a Netflix show for the day, what would it be?

Leapfrog would definitely be a Netflix original series of the documentary genre! We’d have Hawkins or another prominent scientist narrate the documentary to describe how Leapfrog built a marketing capability with scientific precision. The documentary would explore the use of integrated data, relational-databases and infinite ways to transform the consumer journey into a seamless brand experience. The title of the show would be: “Leapfrog — The Connected Consumer Journey.”
