Joel Haver
Improvisational short films, humor, awkward moments, and emotion
Joel usually pops out a new video a couple times a week, and they’re all great. While most are shorts in the range of three to five minutes, sometimes he drops a full-length film out of nowhere.
Some videos are live action, some are animated-ish, some are absurdist sketches, some are critiques of that thing you see all the time and it bugs you and just ugh why dear god why why why is this happening…
Anyway, watch his stuff.

A little bit hilarious, a little bit earnest
What first caught my eye about Joel’s work was this crazy animation style, almost like rotoscoping. I couldn’t imagine someone would go to the painful lengths of doing that, however. Here’s a video giving a demonstration of how he creates the style.
Here’s a good example of that style in action in a more typical type of video.
Joel also produces longer-form videos — dare I say films? — such as this one. All scenes were improvised, and carries his characteristic “oh my god everything is awkward and intimate and honest and ridiculous and cringeworthy and desperate help me oh god no why” style.
And here’s the latest offering about the ridiculous relationships that were continually outlined in classic movies.
