My Hair is Blue Embracing my Life in Color

CREATIVITY IS INNATELY HUMAN. Messy.
Original.
Insatiable.
Human.

Creativity is in the marrow in my bones; it’s the ancient stardust of the Creator; it’s in the subatomic particles that pulse in harmony with all of life while making me uniquely me.

My crowning glory - my hair - is now blue. It’s not a little blue or toned blue — No….IT’S BLUE! In fact, the color is called SHOCKING BLUE!

Like other creative endeavors in my life, I had to do this. It was an impulse that needed to be followed in the midst of a total loss of control over my health. After a summer of powerlessness, being repeatedly hospitalized for repeated infections as a result of primary immune deficiency, leading to the removal of all of my teeth and life-threatening adrenal crisis, it was necessary to do something to reclaim my body as my own.

As Lady Gaga said, “I am as Free as my HAIR.” This song set me free 10 years ago when I was in the early stages of TBI recovery, and I learned that my husband didn’t love me anymore — I came home with purple hair one day.
