Synesthesia — How I speak When There are No Words
Color expresses the ineffable when conventional written language is insufficient. #ColorISLanguage
I am in pain tonight.
It is a flare in my right collar bone, through my sternum into my shoulder, down my arm, up my neck, and into the base of my skull. I am reducing hydrocortisone from a summer of repeated adrenal crises due to a massive dental infection. It happened suddenly after an extraction of one tooth let loose something that my body couldn’t fight, given that I also have a Primary Immune Deficiency. My particular combination of rare diseases don’t go well together.
With every 5mg drop in hydrocortisone (which my body needs to fight infection and stay alive), the pain flares. This is simply an “adjustment” to the lower dose. Then, after two days, I am generally stable, and that is when I drop again. I have been doing this for a couple of months now — every three days, another drop — and thankfully I am almost back to my normal replacement dose. It’s been a painful few months.
As I type this, I notice that it hurts to use the keyboard. Although I have experienced worse pain, this sharp ache has been building all day. I am exhausted.
