Designer Monique Lhuillier is Making The 1970’s Modern (Again)

At her New York Fashion Week runway Monique Lhuillier stepped away from her niche of ball gowns and red carpet dresses in favor of a grittier rock’n’roll vibe for the Fall Winter 2016 collection. While there was plenty of tulle, embellishments, metallic accents and separates; Lhuillier didn’t lose her signature grandeur feeling in the collection inspired by the prints of the 1970’s. It was a modern take on the psychedelic girls of the past with loose, messy hair set against vibrant sequined blouses, paisley printed pants and even an emerald green chinchilla jacket. Lhuillier seems to be enjoying looking to the past for inspiration as this collection was a breath of fresh air from her past princess like pieces. The show did include a familiar corseted ball gown just done with a bit more edge and a graphic rose print. Overall there was more sex appeal as well as risk in this show that proved her range and ability to cater to her fearless and fashion forward clientele.
