Four years ago, Hedi Slimane was hired as Saint Laurent’s creative director between the years 2012 to 2016, and as closure for his stint at the iconic brand, he recently launched his fall men’s shoe collection in Los Angeles. Staying true to his rock n’ roll design sensibility, his newest (and last) collection celebrates androgyny through retro glam kicks, with a wide range of sneakers and boots to interest any man with an eccentric sense of style.

Texture plays a huge role in the fall collection, as Slimane made use of a myriad of textiles and embellishments, from velvet and suede to glitter and metallics. Included in the new line of shoes are shiny Chelsea boots, both heeled and flat, along with sneakers in neutral suedes or patterned with flamboyant designs, such as the high tops with the glittered California Dreamin’ vibe.

Primarily known for its precision-cut tuxedo pieces and luxe leather biker jackets as explained by Lyst, a leading international retailer which has been making a name for itself online, goes on to add how Slimane has helped tremendously in repositioning the brand from its signature aesthetic. Thanks to the French/Tunisian photographer and fashion designer, Saint Laurent now has a booming accessories category that has permanently set the tone of what’s to be expected from succeeding creative directors.

Chairman and CEO of Kering, owner of brands such as YSL, Francois-Henri Pinault tells Pursuitist, “What Yves Saint Laurent has achieved over the past four years represents a unique chapter in the history of the house. I am very grateful to Hedi Slimane, and the whole Yves Saint Laurent team, for having set the path that the house has successfully embraced, and which will grant longevity to this legendary brand.”

Next in line to fill Slimane’s position at Saint Laurent is Anthony Vaccarello, who is rumored to have his first show this October. With the company now having an assortment of accessories to the name, the pressure to continue the brand’s legacy is on Vaccarello.
