How to say Thanksgiving in Spanish

Thanksgiving Day, the traditional fall holiday of feasting and gratitude, is “El Día de Acción de Gracias” in Spanish.

The holiday is not celebrated in any Spanish-speaking countries, but Spanish-speakers living in the US and Canada will be familiar with the term.

Happy Thanksgiving is “Feliz día de acción de gracias!”

Note that capitalization rules are different in Spanish, so you will see translations with nouns capitalized and without.

Thanksgiving as an adjective is “de Acción de Gracias” — for example, Thanksgiving turkey is “el pavo de acción de gracias” in Spanish.

Just like we only use the word Thanksgiving to mean the holiday in English (and would otherwise say “giving thanks”), “día de Acción de Gracias” only refers to the holiday in Spanish.
